Artist Statement

To create is my passion;  it gives me both joy and excitement.

My work is inspired by the breathtaking landscape of Auckland - its beautiful light, shade, shapes and colors.

I love to see how different the colors and shadows of the city are at various times of the day, and how they change with the seasons throughout the year.

The concept “less is more” has influenced my professional life

as a graphic designer for many years, and today it is especially apparent in my color selection and the simplicity of my work.

In the past I created many of my paintings in oil, but now

I prefer to paint with acrylic and mixed media. I use modeling paste in most of my art , to create interesting textures and dimensions, which also is my favorite part of the creative process.

Most often I begin a piece by playing with the paste, using a palette knife , spread it in different directions, and watching as patterns emerge.

I never shy away from trying different colors and methods, then considering how they work together. In many of my creations,

I allow the colors to drip down and explore the interesting shapes that have been formed, In some respects, it’s as if the colors find their own way in the artwork.
